The Lady Titans had the Nelson Lords coming to visit today, with both Junior and Senior teams in action.

Game 1, Juniors: Nelson (4-1, 2nd Place in Tier 1) vs. Holy Trinity (0-6, 10th place in Tier 1)

The Junior girls started off the action, with Holy Trinity looking for their first win of the season after what can only be described as a hard year for the young ladies. With 93 points scored and 179 points against, and only 2 games remaining after today, they attempt to take all they can from this season. Looking to keep gaining experience, the team entered with spirits high before game time.

The first quarter was a close one, with Trinity and Nelson both starting off strong, the chance to pull ahead switching back and forth constantly as soon as the game began. Defensive miscues put Holy Trinity behind early, but Chambers and Dorcich both put up 2 points apiece. It wasn’t enough though, as Nelson lead 9-4 by the end of the 1st quarter. Trinity’s fortunes didn’t improve after, as turnovers and difficulty leaving their own end had them under the gun early in the 2nd. Nelson had problems of their own, struggling to convert on Trinity’s defensive issues early on. HT kept pushing, creating various chances but not being able to finish, which gave the Nelson Lords time to take advantage. They brought the score up to 20-7 at halftime, with Trinity’s only points coming from Dorcich and Chambers during the 2nd.

Nelson continued their torrid scoring pace throughout the second. The Junior ladies kept fighting, with Chambers scoring on a slick and skillful move, showing they won’t go down without a fight, the score becoming 11-22 early in the 3rd. The tide seemed to turn, as Nelson struggled to increase their lead for a short amount of time. Trinity capitalized on a few chances during this, most notably on a layup by Rivait, started off from a beautiful crosscourt pass from Danica Crnogorac off the inbound play. Even with the increased intensity from the ladies, Nelson still led by the beginning of the 4th, 31-16. Nelson then capped off the victory, scoring 7 points in the final frame with Holy Trinity unable to gain solid possession for the rest of the game. Turnovers were the main issue throughout the game, but the Titans kept pushing until the final buzzer rang.

Final Score: Nelson 38, Holy Trinity 20.

Player of the Game: Holy Trinity, in spite of the loss, showed flashes of offense and skill, with the potential to improve definitely present. A team effort was shown today, Dorcich and Chambers both finished the night off with 5 points, and Rivait with 6 to lead the team. Chambers and Crnogorac both stood out, showing the ability to control the pace of the game, creating chances whenever they had the opportunity. Overall, a good effort by the Junior Ladies.

Game 2, Seniors: Nelson (0-5, 9th in Tier 1) vs. Holy Trinity (5-0, 1st in Tier 1)

The powerhouse Senior Titans looked to keep their perfect record intact at home, having outscored opponents by 248 points this season. They’ve also stayed strong defensively, having only 173 points scored against, only a point short of being the best defensive team this season. Two opposite stories for both teams at this match, with the Nelson girls looking for their first win of the season.

Final Score: Nelson 23, Holy Trinity 43

This enormous victory for the Senior ladies improves their perfect record to 6-0, two points clear of second place between Kings and Loyola, who visits HT on Thursday. An essential matchup for the Senior team to remain ahead of the pack.

Both of Holy Trinity’s teams are back in action on Thursday, vs the Loyola Hawks. Seniors are in action at 1:30 PM, and Juniors play at 3:00 PM. Come out and support!!

GO TITANS!!
