How Can an Empty Bowl Fill You Up?

As the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler, we look forward to warming ourselves with a hot drink, a warm fire, or perhaps a piping bowl of soup to ease the chill of winter nights.

This year, Holy Trinity is hosting its first Empty Bowls event on Thursday, November 30. This evening is an opportunity for friends and family to gather together and share a meal. Sharing a meal is perhaps one of the best ways to warm one's heart and fill one's stomach.

But it also has another important and heartwarming goal: to help alleviate hunger for people in our community.

The event allows people to purchase a $5 ticket, which provides a warm bowl of soup, fresh bread, and a drink. For the price of the $30 ticket, the purchaser is welcome to select a beautiful handmade and decorated ceramic bowl. Some of these bowls were decorated by elementary students (and future HT students!) from St. Michael and St. John elementary schools.

The Visual Art Department spearheaded this event in the hopes that Holy Trinity staff and students will find a unique way to support members of our local community. Special thanks to Mr. Galante, whose efforts have led to the creation of the many bowls for the event.

Aveiro Bakery and Chartwell School Catering are generously providing the meal for the evening and The Pottery Supply House in Oakville provided clay and glazes for the handcrafted bowls. Their generous sponsorship has helped make the event possible. The proceeds from this event will benefit the St. Vincent De Paul Society of St. Michael's Parish in Oakville.

The event runs from 6-8 pm in Holy Trinity's Cafeteria Thursday, November 30.
