Holy Trinity and Loyola clash in today’s basketball match up, with both sides battling for important points in the standings.
Game 1: Seniors, Loyola (5-1, tied for 2rd in Tier 1) vs. Holy Trinity (6-0, 1st in Tier 1)
A vital game for the Titans, as they look to improve on their current undefeated record and face the high powered Loyola team, who was fresh off a huge win against Kings and currently tied for 2nd, looking to catch up to HT in the standings. A packed house for Trinity today, with the stands full of students and teachers to witness the match up. Shout out to The Titan Time’s own D’Arcy Murphy, for attempting to bring his signature trumpet, despite the referees shutting him down.
The 1st quarter was a quick one with both the offensive and defensive capabilities of the two teams being shown. Loyola opens the scoring, but the crowd was given something to cheer about early when Fiorella Granda made a highlight reel block, preventing Loyola from increasing their lead and energizing the crowd. Jillian Condron and Tiffany McNeil began the scoring for Trinity, putting up 6 points with both scoring off beautiful 3 point shots. Trinity spent little time in the defensive end, as it was an offensive whirlwind for both teams. Unfortunately, Loyola’s identity as a high scoring team was shown as they led the Trinity 10-9 by the beginning of the 2nd frame. They didn’t let up on the offense, with HT allowing various shots from the outside, but kept with them as seemingly neither team could sustain a lead without the other pushing back. Fiorella Granda lead the girls in points during the 2nd quarter, but bad luck and turnovers had Loyola leading 26-14 at halftime.
In the second half, HT continued to struggle to contain Loyola’s shots from the outside, but were able to control the pace when given possession and was able to open up the Hawks defense. HT’s offense came from various sources in this frame, with 9 points coming from 4 different players, showing off Trinity’s balanced attack. Loyola seemingly had an answer for every offensive play HT threw at them, with the score 36-25 in their favour at the beginning of the 4th. As hard as the ladies pushed, they were unable to finish on the many chances given to them throughout the game, and Loyola finished with the victory, ending Holy Trinity’s bid at an undefeated season.

Final Score: Holy Trinity 33, Loyola 46
Player of the Game: Fiorella Granda had 6 points on the night, but stood out by being everywhere on the court, taking charge offensively and defensively for the Senior team, playing a solid two way game. Tiffany McNeil also had a great night, with 14 of Trinity’s 33 points, with a trio of successful 3 point shots.
Game 2: Juniors, Loyola (6-0, 1st in Tier 1) vs. Holy Trinity (0-7, 10th in Tier 1)
A David and Goliath match up here, as our own Junior girls look to take on the first place team, and still looking for their first win of the year. Regardless of their record, the Titans want to give it all they have.
The first half was a good one for Trinity, as they seemed much improved from their previous games. Excellent ball possession and movement allows them to take an early 6-0 lead, but the tier leading Hawks showed why their position in the standings matter, tying the game up with 30 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Old habits began to creep up in Trinity’s play during the 2nd, as turnovers and defensive errors plagued them, letting Loyola took advantage, with a 11-6 lead. HT’s offense was there, but unfortunately the Hawks were able to push through their defense, with only Rivait and Chambers contributing to the offense during the quarter. Score at halftime was 17-11 for Loyola.
The Hawks continued their attack quickly during the last half of the game, but the Titan’s offense definitely showed improvement with points coming from Bozic, Crnogorac, Zangana, and Dorcich. Their defense was the weak point, with Loyola leading by a 10 point advantage at the beginning of the fourth. Dorcich led the way in the 4th, going 4 for 4 on free throws, in an effort to keep Trinity alive. Again, Loyola showed why they were first, finishing the game off when Trinity was unable to hold them off defensively.
Final Score: Holy Trinity 28, Loyola 45.
Player of the Game: Dorcich was the standout player in this match up, playing exceptionally in the first half despite any points, and put on a show during the rest of the game, with 6 points in the final two quarters, including a dominant performance on the free throw line, going 4 for 4. Bozic had a good game herself, constantly putting points up on the board throughout the game, finishing the night off with 8.
Both teams are in action for their final game of the season this Tuesday at Jean Vanier, looking to cap off their seasons with a win.
GOOOO TITANS!
