Junior Boys Make First Round Exit from Volleyball Court

The volleyball team’s collapse was painful and all too reminiscent of a certain Maple Leaf playoff game in May of 2013 against the Boston Bruins. The Leafs, with a 4-1 lead and 15 minutes left on the clock in the third period, could not will the clock to wind down fast enough as the game spiralled out of control. James Reimer and the team in front of him, allowing 3 goals in regulation to tie the game and eventually one more in overtime, watched as all hope of winning that game seven and advancing to the second round of the Stanley cup playoffs was flushed down the drain. Flash forward to November 2015, the junior boys volleyball team took on Sainte Trinité in quarterfinal action at home Monday afternoon. The game had a promising start; a 25-15 win in the first set had the Titans off and running, but the momentum quickly shifted as the second set started with a 7-1 hole that the Titans would never climb out of. They lost the hard-fought second set 25-20. Tied 1-1 going into the third set, they needed only 15 points to advance to the semi-final and live up to their first seed reputation. Once again it was a promising start, the boys got out to a lead of 13-8, only two more points to earn the win… and the wheels fell off. The titans allowed four straight points before a quick timeout was called by the home squad but the damage had already been done. One point for HT, followed by three more for the opponents. The momentum had shifted and the change was permanent. The boys would go on to lose the set 18-16; ending their playoff run as soon as it started. Though it was a disappointing loss for the Titans it can’t be forgotten that this was the team that finished first place in the regular season, losing a measly four sets the entire season with a record of 10-1. The team showed that they had a competitive nature and that they played to win every game. HT is proud to have this team representing us! As always huge thanks must be extended to the coaching staff Ms. Falcone and Ms. O’Hara for taking time out of their own schedules to coach the team and give them the best opportunities to win games. For more stats, scores and updates, stay tuned, and as always: Go Titans!
