Bullying Awareness Week a Success

The Holy Trinity Student Senate has been working hard to make anti-bullying week a huge success in our school, passing out pink ally pins, spreading positivity through messages attached to sour keys, and organizing an assembly featuring a guest speaker to give us an indepth look to what happens when we post things on the internet.

Titans are even carrying this campaign further with the See The Problem, Be The Solution media contest. Students will be able to submit posters, short videos, and other forms of media to win prizes. More information will become available in the coming months; the contest will be held in February and March.

Of course, the student senators are not strangers to hard work. Senators Kate Ingman and Anna Shajee say that they are the voice of all students in the board, the ones who go out to make our school environment more enjoyable for everyone.

Other projects being taken on by the student senate include HCDSB’s 5-year plan, which is when every 5 years the board initiates changes that are requested by the students. All requests from the suggestion box will be taken into consideration, so Titans are encouraged to jot down their thoughts as it is ensured that they will be read!

Kate and Anna say that the most popular requests involve more recognition for the arts. Understandable, as we are such a sports oriented school. It is not confirmed, but it is possible that this is where the idea of HT’s first ever Arts Council came from.

Among other things, the board is also taking action for different types of learning, and modernizing the classrooms for those who are kinesthetic, visual or tactile learners instead of just auditory learners. In attempt to make a good learning experience for everyone, steps will be taken to break away from “old-fashioned” classroom habits.

This 5-year plan is on its final year, so there has never been a better time to make your voice heard.

In conclusion, Student senators are the unsung heros of gettin’ things done, so remember to thank them when you see them not only for the great bullying awareness week activities, but also for being your voice in the school system.
