Three weeks ago, Toronto hosted its semi annual World Mastercard Fashion Week. It brought together some of the greatest Canadian designers in order to promote their Spring/Summer 2016 collections. You may be thinking it’s too early to think about spring and summer since we’re just starting to hit the colder season. However, it’s never too early to think about trends for next season! Here’s a peek of the top six picks from Fashion Week:

Ruffles. This unique touch on fabric is a grown up girly look that’s perfect with any outfit. Designers such as Pink Tartan, Malorie Urbanovitch and Mikael D have brought the movement as a must-have for spring.

The 70’s. Get your groove on because the 1970s is back on the runway. The best throwbacks include Hilary MacMillan’s patterned shirt dress, Pink Tartan’s retro-colour palette and ponchos, and Laura Siegel’s flowy printed cardigan.

Neons. Electric hues will keep you looking fab all day and all night. Some of this spring’s most colourful looks included Hayley Elsaesser’s high-watt carnival inspired prints, Ashtiani’s floor-length hot pink topper and Mackage’s edgy turquoise outfit.

3D Florals. Floral is the ultimate and most iconic spring trend. However, designers took their designs to the next level. For instance, Mikhael Kale’s petal-heavy skirt and Lucian Matis’ wallpaper inspired textured fabrics wowed the crowds.

Minimalism. Sometimes less is always more. Designers such as Sid Neigum, Unttld, and Ashtiani show that simplicity is always in style.

Statement Earrings. It’s not just necklaces and rings that make a statement. Malorie Urbanovich included 3D printing on oversized earrings, Mackage used colourful fringe dusters, and Pink Tartan’s crochet inspired XL hoops to bring on to the 70’s trend.
