Hello there, Titans! Long time no see. I hope all of you are having a great school year so far, and if not, you better get on that because time is flying by.
Since it’s that time of the year for this year’s graduating class to choose where they want to go next, I was asked to give you some tips on how to choose a school that is right for you, so bear with me please.
Choosing a college or university is a big decision that will shape the next few years of your life. Although it can cause lots of stress, it is a fun experience. It is stressful because you need to choose from millions of possibilities of what you want to be at such a young age. On the bright side, it gives you the opportunity to learn more about yourself and experience new things as you go.
Here are some tips to keep in mind while you choose your post-secondary pathway:
Choose the school that is right for you! Only YOU can decide which school is right for you. Even though it is helpful to talk about your choices with your family, friends and guidance counselor, it is your decision at the end of the day!
Don’t choose a school based on where your friends are going or where your parents want you to go to! University or college is a great place to meet new people and possibly meet your future best friends. Don’t be afraid of change, it’s natural.
Decide what you want to be and go be it! Don’t let anyone or anything hold you down. Go do your thing and prove others wrong!
Learn about your school! Go to workshops and open houses to learn what your school has to offer in and out of the lecture hall as well as what it requires.
Look into financial costs! We all know that all programs and tuitions are expensive, but many universities and colleges offer scholarships and financial aids. So don’t miss out on that free money!!!
Research employment opportunities! Learn about what you can do once you graduate from your program. Do you want to further your education or do you want to go straight into the field? Find out where the graduates of the program are working and how much they’re earning.
Think about student life! Do you want to live on campus and experience that independent life or would you rather stay at home and have a full access to a well-stocked refrigerator?
Once you exit the high school doors, the world is for you to discover. You may want to take a year off to clear your head or you may want to go back to high school for a super senior year in the fall. You may want to go straight to the workforce or attend your dream post-secondary school. Whatever you choose and wherever you end up, I wish you all the best! Go find your place and become the person you want to be! Good luck Titans!!!
