International Transgender Day of Visibility
Thursday is International Transgender Day of Visibility! It’s a day to celebrate the accomplishments of transgender people across the globe! So in honour of this day, we decided to showcase some inspiring transgender people!
Laverne Cox
Laverne Cox has been a monumental figure in trans-rights in recent years, and is arguably the most famous trans actress in the world. She is most-known for portraying Sophia Burset in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, and has since become the first trans person to appear on the cover of Time’s Magazine, among other records and accolades.
Janet Mock
Mock is a TV host, writer, and activist. She was an editor at People Magazine for 5 years and eventually, a media advocate. She speaks on transgender, feminist, and racial issues. Janet has continued to appear on shows such as The Colbert Report and The Nightly Show. Kye Allums
Kye Allums became the first openly transgender athlete to compete in the NCAA Division 1, the highest level for college athletics. Hari Nef
Hari Nef is a transgender actress and model recently signed to IMG Worldwide, one of the biggest modelling agencies in the country. Known for her edgy style and gaining fame through social media, she uses her platform to address issues such as society, media, and transgender issues. She is most notable for work on DAZED and VICE magazine. Carmen Carrera
Carrera is a TV personality most known for her appearance on season three of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She has since been the face for several ads and is a strong voice for the AIDS community. Balian Buschbaum
Balian Buschbaum is a transgender athlete who had once competed for Germany in the pole vault. He has since retired.
