This year's Mock Trial started with some early morning practices as the team’s analyzed the cases and wrote up the scripts of both the Crown and Defense. Then, the junior and senior teams went head to head in order to find the deficiencies in the cases that they prepared.
In the Halton Catholic Mock Trial, the senior team made the executive decision to play as defense for all three rounds. It payed off, resulting in a strong showing in the finals to obtain silver metal by a narrow margin. The senior team had the opportunity to move to the Halton Finals, and after a lackadaisical first round, the team was on their game, winning the next two and effectively winning the consolation final, third place.
An excellent job was done by Maddi McNevitts and Martin Ganev who were on the team since grade ten, and by D’Arcy Murphy and Rebecca Vukojevic who had been on the team since the previous year. Finally, a huge congratulations to Alley Doyle, who won best witness in the Halton Region, PUBLISHER’S NOTE: as well as to Darryl Young for making a solid contribution in his first year on their first year with the team. The entire Mock Trial Team would like to that Coach and Executive Committee Stonkus for all his support.
The junior team of grade elevens also put out a great effort, losing by only one point in the consolation finals in the Halton Catholic Mock Trial. They’re now on their way to do great things at the senior level.
