Spring Music Night

The best way to celebrate the spring season is with Holy Trinity’s music department’s annual Spring Music Night. Parents, alumni, and students gathered to appreciate the results of musical education this past semester on Thursday in the school theatre.

The music night began with the introduction and musician’s prayer led by Mr. Harkin. First set kicked off by the lively piece of “Adelieland” by the Senior Concert Band. Followed closely were the repertoire classes and the guitar class on stage performing the pieces they have worked on all semester. After intermission, special guests from Our Lady of Peace joined the Senior Concert Band to perform “Themes from Harry Potter”, as well as an OLP traditional “Windsong”. Up next was the Jazz Band bringing joy of music to the audiences. Again Gr. 10 and 11/12 repertoire classes performed their last numbers in the second set. The grand finale was the Senior Concert Band with the popular “Uptown Funk”. The audiences could not contain themselves but to stand and applaud at the end of the concert.

Towards the end of the concert, as a HT tradition, the graduating students were called to the front to be recognized. They took this special occasion to thank Mr. Harkin for the past four years of music education with a touching speech and presents. The HT music program would not prosper without the leadership of Mr. Harkin and the student commitment to excellence. As the population of the school decreases, Mr. Harkin states that it has been more and more challenging to maintain the program. Shortly after the showing of the special video production made by Grade 12s, Mr. Harkin again stated that he will do everything he can to keep the program, that has meant so much to so many people, running in the future.
